How to Fix Microsoft Word Not Responding Error

1. Change the default printer

Microsoft Word can become unresponsive in the event that it fails to connect with the printer connected the computer.

So follow the steps below to change the default printer on your PC in to Microsoft XPS Document Writer and check if this aids in resolving the issue.

1. Open Settings > click on Printers & Scanners.

2. On the next screen, click Printers & Scanners in the left pane. In the right-hand pane you will see Microsoft XPS Document Writer and click Manage.

3. On the next screen, choose the”Set as Default.

After you have set Microsoft XPS Document Writer as the default printer Open Microsoft Word and see if the issue is resolved.

2. Repair Microsoft Word

The reason for Microsoft Word not responding might be due to corrupted software files.

1. Right-click on the Start button, then click Run.

2. In the Run Command Window enter appwiz.cpl and click OK.

3. On the next screen, right-click Microsoft Office and click on Repair from the menu that pops up.

NOTE: If the Repair option isn’t present Click on the right-click to change it, then choose Repair on the next pop-up window and click Continue.

The repair program will wait for you to start Word and fix Microsoft Office program.

3. Use Word Safe Mode to run it

The process of opening Microsoft Word in safe mode removes all Plug-ins and Add-on applications installed on your PC.

1. Right-click on the Start button, then click Run.

2. On the Run command box enter winword.exe /safe , then click OK to begin Microsoft Word in Safe Mode.

3. Now try opening the Word File that is not responsive. Word File again on your PC.

If this solves the issue then you can try the next procedure to disable active plug-ins, one by one to pinpoint the plugin that caused the problem on your system.

4. Remove Plugins and Add-Ins

External plugins, whether installed by you, or included automatically could affect the working properly in Microsoft Word.

So take the steps listed below to deactivate Microsoft Word plug-ins (if there are any) that are installed on your PC.

1. Open Microsoft Word Program on your computer . create a new document.

Notice: Open Microsoft Word in Safe Mode in case you’re not able to launch the Word program.

2. Once you are within Microsoft Word, click on the File tab.

3. In the menu that appears scroll down, then click Options.

4. In Word Options screen, select Add-ins option in the left-hand pane. In the right-hand pane, choose Word Add-ins. Click on”Go… option.

5. On the Add-Ins screen, uncheck the option next to Active Add-Ins, then click”OK” to commit the changes.

After removing Word Add-Ins, then restart Microsoft Word and see if the issue with Microsoft Word Not Responding is resolved.
