It is not common to find the Mac showing incorrect Time and Date. It could happen with an Mac that is on the side of the road or not connected to the internet for an extended period of. The good news is that solving the problem with the time on the Mac that displays an inaccurate time and date is not difficult in the majority of cases.

Fix Mac Showing Incorrect Time and Date

The majority of Macs are configured to update their clocks on a regular basis by connecting to Apple’s trusted timing service (time.apple.com) via Internet connectivity. This is the reason an Mac that is not linked to the Internet for a prolonged time could show an inaccurate Time and Date.

In addition, there could be other causes for your Mac not showing the correct Time that could be the result of changing the Time Zone (while traveling) or minor program bugs that can stop the Mac from changing its clock.

Restart Your Mac

Restarting the Computer is able to resolve minor software glitches as well as solve problems. Therefore, it is advisable to never be afraid to take this simple process in restarting the Mac to determine if it will fix the wrong date and time problem in your Mac.

1. Click on the Apple icon at the top right corner. after that, click Restart from the drop-down menu.

Check Date and Time Settings on Mac

The steps listed below will verify that you’re Mac is properly configured to automatically set its time through Apple’s time service.

1. Click on the Apple icon located in the upper menu bar of Your Mac and then select the System Preferences option from the dropdown menu.

2. On the System Preferences screen, select the Date and Time option.

3. On the next screen, ensure that the option to Set Date and Timing Automatically is turned on. (See the image below)

4. Enable the option to set date and time automatically in the event that it isn’t available on your device.

Notice:You need to be registered to your Admin Account to enable or disable the option “Set Date and Time Automatically”.

Correct Date & Time Manually On Mac.

As we mentioned earlier the Mac may display incorrect time when you cross an hour zone when traveling or due to small software issues in your Mac. If this happens you can fix the time in your Mac manually using the instructions in the following steps.

1. Click on the Apple icon on the upper menu bar of the top menu bar of your Mac and then select the System Preferences option from the menu drop down.

2. On the System Preferences screen click on the Date and Time option.

3. On the Date and Time screen, uncheck the option to set Time and Date Automatically. Time Automatically. Then, you can correct the Date and Time Manually as needed (See the image below).

Allow Mac to Set Time Zone Automatically

If you’re frequent travelers You can set Your Mac to Set Time Zone Automatically by using Location Services. This option is ideal when you frequently travel and do not face any issues activating Location Services on your device.

1. Click on the Apple icon on the upper menu bar on Your Mac and then click the System Preferences tab in the menu drop down.

2. On the System Preferences screen click on the Date and Time option.

3. On the Date & Time screen, first select the Time Zone tab and then activate the Set Time Zone Automatically option (See below for an example).

4. You will next be presented with a pop-up that informs the user it is because Location Services are not enabled on your device. Click the Open Privacy Settings… click.

5. On the Security and Privacy Screen First, Enable Location Services and then click”Details… link right next to System Services (See image below).

6. On the next screen, enable the option to Set Time Zone and tap on Done.

If you enable this setting the Mac can be set to adjust Date and Time according to the whereabouts on your computer. If you are in a time zone that is not yours or countries, your Mac will use Location Services to track your whereabouts and use the correct time zone to update the date and time for your Mac.
